For over thirty years, the no-frills burger stand has been serving up hearty portions of charred burger with huge slices of tomato on a grilled bun. They're known for their chili and breakfast burritos as well.
Lucky Boy in Pasadena: Can it be? Too much bacon? Lucky Boy is greasy spoon right across the street from the Trader Joe's on Arroyo Pkwy in Pasadena. It's been mentioned often here. In fact, there's a very real possibility that I posted a nearly identical review about it the last time we went. But, that's ok. Re-reviewing it keeps info fresh. But I feel the need to give 'em a plug. Last night was super tasty.
Lucky Boy in Pasadena is a Landmark. It even says so on the menu. Local families and students have been coming to the outdoor stand for over 30 years. The charred burgers come with mild onions, grilled upon request, lettuce, and the biggest tomato you have ever seen. The buns are toasted on the grill, a nice old-school touch. The chili is meaty and not too spicy, a perfect addition to the burger.
If you desire monster breakfast burritos, burgers, bacon, bacon, and, um, bacon, then Lucky Boy is the place for you. Those with delicate constitutions or an aversion to grease should steer clear or at least grab some Rolaids before eatign at this fast food legend.
As notable for the fact that you'll get yelled at as you try to order it as it is for the monster amounts of crazy-good bacon that the guy yelling at you will eventually stuff into it. Mmmm.
Ringed with potato and weighing in at several pounds (at least it feels that way), the Lucky Boy burrito is a thing of gigantic beauty. No wonder it’s consistently ranked as among the best in greater Los Angeles — and is known to be one heck of a hangover cure.
